Description:Ergonomics is the science of designing safe and productive workplaces and jobs for workers. Studies have shown that workers whose jobs are physically demanding or are poorly designed from an ergonomics perspective are at significantly increased risk of developing work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) (NIOSH) 1997; NRC and IOM 2001). Workers in these high-risk jobs also have significantly more lost workdays (LWDs) than those whose jobs are considered to be ergonomically designed. Studies have shown that WMSDs and the associated reductions in productivity account for significant financial costs for companies. [Description provided by NIOSH]
