  NSAIDs are a group of chemically dissimilar agents, other than steroids, commonly used to treat a variety of conditions because of their analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. They are widely used to reduce inflammation and pain in musculoskeletal disorders including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, tendonitis, and muscle strains. They are also used for treatment of headaches, fever, dental and other common painful conditions. Recently, the use of aspirin for prevention of diseases such as myocardial infarction, stroke and cancer has gained attention. [Description provided by NIOSH]
