Description:The main focus of this book is the use of laboratory methods to measure biologic markers in epidemiologic studies. The confidence an investigator has in the data, and the ultimate conclusions of a study using biologic markers, depend largely on the consistency of the laboratory analyses and instruments that produce them. Therefore, epidemiologists should be familiar with laboratory quality control procedures for assays that are included in their studies. This chapter presents an overview of assessing reliability in laboratory data and the sources of technical variability. [Description provided by NIOSH]
