Description:The induction of pulmonary disease by isocyanates is reviewed. Three major diisocyanates, 2,4-toluene-diisocyanate (584849) (TDI), hexamethylene-diisocyanate (822060), and methylene-diphenyl-diisocyanate (101688) are considered. Manufacturing processes and concentrations of exposures from them are presented, as are threshold limit values for TDI. Current research on asthma induced by diisocyanates is emphasized. Future monitoring techniques are proposed which could result in early detection and treatment of pulmonary diseases induced by isocyanates. [Description provided by NIOSH]
