Description:Immunoreactivity to mono and diisocyanate protein conjugates was evaluated in fifteen workers with toluene-diisocyanate (584849) (TDI) asthma and seventeen nonexposed volunteers. Intracutaneous skin tests, measurement of specific immunoglobulin to E by leucocyte inhibitory factor (LIF) tests were conducted using conjugates of human serum albumin and TDI (HSA-TDI) or hexamethylene-diisocyanate (822060) (HSA-HDI). Peripheral leucocytes of nine symptomatic workers produced LIF after exposure to HSA-TDI and four of these workers also exhibited LIF activity to HSA-HDI. No LIF activity was detected in nonexposed subjects or in a previously symptomatic worker removed from TDI exposure 7 years prior to testing. [Description provided by NIOSH]
