Description:Screening tests used to detect genetic damage in industrial workers are evaluated. Tests for serum alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase deficiency, cadmium-disulfide genetic predisposition, isocyanate allergic reaction, and sickle cell trait hemoglobinopathies are discussed. The authors recommend that genetic testing be incorporated in preemployment examinations, but suggest careful test selection and interpretation of test results. [Description provided by NIOSH]
