Description:Field tests of a permeation type personal monitor for vinyl-chloride (75014) are described. This method conforms to OSHA regulations requiring the use of charcoal for collection and stabilization purposes. It differs from active sampling methods by means of a passive permeation process in which a silicone membrane is utilized and gaseous contaminants dissolve and permeate the membrane to a charcoal collector and stabilizer. Extensive field studies were supported by a number of laboratory investigations in which the accuracy, reliability, convenience, and general acceptability of personal permeation type monitors were confirmed. Data is based on time weighted averages and response is linear from 5ppm to 50ppm. The personal monitors, weighing only 35 grams, are described as easy to wear, not affected by environmental variations, essentially indestructible, and economical. [Description provided by NIOSH]
