Description:Serum concentrations of the 5 major classes of immunoglobulins are measured in 27 farmers' lung patients and compared with a group of normals and a group of patients with diffuse lung disease other than farmers lung. The mean immunoglobulin-G and immunoglobulin-A levels in the sera of the farmer's lung patients are found to be significantly higher than that of the normal group. The immunoglobulin-G level of the farmers lung group is also significantly higher than the group with diffuse lung disease. Immunoglobulin-M, immunoglobulin-D, and immunoglobulin-E are not remarkably different from normal in either diffuse lung disease group. [Description provided by NIOSH]
