Description:Four commercial stainless steel cyclones are evaluated for use as precollectors in two stage respirable dust samplers according to calibration requirements based on specific size versus efficiency criteria, as established by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACIGH). The measurement criteria are a result of the finding that respirable dust penetration into the nonciliated portions of the lung is the causal factor in pneumoconiosis development. All of the cyclones tested closely simulate the ACGIH sampler acceptance curve at a particular flow rate. [Description provided by NIOSH]
