Description:The ventilatory capacity of a sample of normal coal miners is compared to that of the "normal" population. Kory's predicted values for Forced Expiratory Volume (FEV1) and Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) are shown to be similar to those derived from the sample of normal coal miners. The age, height, FEV1 and FVC are also similar in regard to the mean value and standard deviation. Regression analyses are then performed using age and height to predict the FEV1 and FVC for the coal miners. For almost all combinations of age and height, the values obtained differed only slightly from the values obtained by Kory's equations. [Description provided by NIOSH]
