Description:Evaluation of the hair digest matrix as a source of interferences in the determination of metals using atomic absorption spectrophotometry and development of a technique for interlaboratory comparison of analytical data for evaluation of the influence of the nonessential metals present in man's environment. Ordinary methods and commercially available equipment are shown to be satisfactory for avoiding interferences due to broad-band nonspecific-moleucular absorption, chemical ionization, flame emission, flame scatter, light scatter and matrix matching during hair analysis. A technique is presented for the preparation of a standard reference hair sample, from which concentrations of copper, zinc, lead, and cadmium in a nitric acid hair digest matrix can be accurately measured.
