Description:The purpose of this booklet was to provide information about electromagnetic field (EMF) exposures in the workplace. This booklet describes what researchers have learned about EMFs and identifies some sources of EMFs in various industries. Basic terms concerning electric and magnetic fields are reviewed. Background information is provided about epidemiology, and summaries of major occupational EMF studies are presented. Biological studies that examine EMF effects on animals and individual cells are described. A sampling of opinions from individuals and organizations that have studied the EMF issue are offered. Current United States government EMF research efforts are delineated. Typical EMF exposures in various work environments were discussed and EMF sources were identified. Sources of additional information on EMFs are listed.
