Report on the "International Symposium on Pneumoconioses" in Shenyang, China, 30 May - 2 June 1988.

  A summary of the proceedings of the International Symposium on Pneumoconioses, held in Shenyang, China from May 30 to June 2, 1988, was presented. Of the 150 participants at the meeting, 127 came from 20 different provinces in the People's Republic of China and 23 came from eight European countries, the United States, Japan and the World Health Organization. A total of 74 oral presentations and 34 poster presentations were given on subject areas which included: technology of dust prevention and dust measurement including results of person related dust exposure measurements; epidemiology including epidemiological studies in coal mines, in the asbestos industry, and in workers exposed to flax dust and to welding fumes; the incidence and development of silicosis, asbestosis, lung cancer, mesotheliomas, and allergic disorders; aetiopathogenesis and pathology of pneumoconioses; diagnosis of pneumoconioses, such as bibasal crepitation, siderocytes in the sputum, and presence of asbestos (1332214) bodies and fibers; and drugs used in the therapy of silicosis, such as Tetrandrine, polyvinylpyridine-N-oxide, Piperaquine and aluminum, and Reduquin.
