Description:A corporate health management program was assessed in regard to employee participation and benefits. The program, including a Health Services Center and exercise facility, was available to the 2,000 corporate salaried employees of Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Appleton and Neenah-Menasha, Wisconsin. Program personnel included a physician, a manager of health services, a nurse practitioner, a coordinator of special health services, two nurses, three technicians, and a physical education specialist. Programs offered included health screening, aerobic exercise, cardiac rehabilitation, health education, employee assistance for alcohol and drug abuse, and individual and group risk factor intervention counseling. Individual exercise prescription included determination of functional capacity by graded exercise testing using a treadmill or bicycle ergometer, cardiology, determination of an exercise regimen to achieve the desired training effect including orthopedic considerations and individual physiological goals, and education and motivation for adherence to the program. Typical target levels for training normal and symptomatic individuals, types of exercise available, and classification of fitness level procedures were discussed.
