Description:Worker exposures to vinyl-chloride (75014) (VC) were determined at the B. F. Goodrich Chemical Company (SIC-2821), Polyvinyl Chloride Operations, in Pedricktown, New Jersey from August 5 to 9, 1974. About 50 employees were assigned to the polyvinyl-chloride polymerization areas that were surveyed. The company maintained formal medical, industrial hygiene, and safety programs. VC sample concentrations ranged from nondetectable to 245.0 parts per million (ppm) with most samples below the 50ppm OSHA standard. Noise levels ranged from 71 to 106 decibels relative to the A-weighted scale. The author notes that exhaust ventilation modifications in progress at this facility should reduce VC concentrations to the proposed OSHA standard of 1.0ppm.
