Description:Studies on the reproductive effects of chloroprene (126998) are reviewed. Information is provided on the mutagenicity and carcinogenicity of the chemical reproductive studies in laboratory animals and epidemiological surveys of exposed worker populations are discussed together with the incidence of chloroprene induced chromosomal abnormalities. The author concludes that chloroprene is a potential human mutagen, and recommends several areas of future research such as evaluation of the dominant lethal test, the effects of chloroprene metabolites and the determination of the optimum level of significance for chromosomal aberration tests.
