Description:The major topics of this chapter on ergonomic aspects of biomechanics are the anatomy of function, anthropometry, work tolerance, hand tools, manual materials handling and lifting, and measurement and evaluation in biomechanics. The basic lever systems of the body and kinetic chains are described. Industrial seating and the physical dimensions of the workplace are described to give optim worker comfort and work output. Prevention of mechanotactic stress can be achieved by correct posture, limiting man equipment interface problems and effective kinesiology. Hand tools should be selected considering their biomechanical design. The physics and mechanics of lifting, and the measurement of work by various means are discussed.
