Description:A walk-through survey was conducted at the Harshaw Chemical Company, Gloucester City, New Jersey, on May 14-15, 1975, and an air sampling survey was conducted on June 17, 1975. The antimony-oxide (1309644) production (SIC-3339) process is described, and results of analysis of air samples collected are given. All the antimony (7440360) values are above the current threshold limit value of 0.5 milligrams per cubic meter, and 11 of 12 samples are above the proposed arsenic (7440382) standard of 0.004 milligrams per cubic meter. Recommendations include: examination of the process by process engineers; improvements in hooding and ventilation, especially around the bagging operation; use of proper size bags for bagging of the product; improved work practices, especially in respect to the elimination of the use of compressed air for cleaning clothing.
