Description:A discussion dedicated primarily to the significance of establishing threshold limit values for various agents, especially lead, arrives at the conclusion that biological monitoring alone is not an appropriate way to assure safety and health for workers, and that both environment and hosts may be monitored to assure low levels of contaminants. In the case of lead (7439921), the determination of aminolevulinic-acid dehydratase appears to be superior to blood levels. Recommendations are made for the development of standards for levels that will adequately protect the health of workers.
