Description:The importance of environment is emphasized in this discussion of the responsibilities of the full or part time physician in occupational medicine. It is stressed that the occupational physician should be aware of all the environments of the workers (community, home, workplace, recreation and travel), develop an awareness of epidemiological principles and of differences in risks across population groups and be alert to unusual events and aberrant circumstances signaling special investigation and protective measures.
