Description:On February 2, 2004, President George W. Bush presented the fiscal year (FY) 2005 Budget Request to Congress. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) requested a total funding level of $6.9 billion. The FY 2005 budget request reflects CDC’s guiding imperatives of science, service, systems, strategy, and security in a strong endorsement of the agency’s commitment to promoting and protecting the health and safety of all Americans. CDC will also be guided by a strategic planning process known as the “Futures Initiative.” This outside- in approach of gathering information on who we are and how we do business and seeking input on future plans will help CDC chart its direction and determine how well we are succeeding in our mission to protect and improve the health of the American people.
