Description:Evaluation of hazards from exposure to chromic-acid (7738945) mist in an automotive plant. Medical interviews and examinations show no evidence of permanent injury to the nasal septa or any other effects associated with chronic chromate toxicity. The acceptable ceiling concentration for chromic acid is given as 0.1 milligram per cubic meter. Toxic effects of chromate ion in the hexavalent form are given as skin lesions, called chrome hole, and bronchogenic carcinoma. Recommendations include increasing the hood efficiency over the chrome (7440473) plate tank, exclusion of individuals with skin allergies, chronic eye conditions and respiratory conditions from work in the chrome department, provision of adequate ventilation, safe working conditions, and protective equipment.
