  Worker exposures to methanol (67561), naphtha (8030306), toluene (108883), ethanol (64175), and methylene-bisphenyl-4,4-diisocyanate (101688) (MDI) were surveyed on February 25 to 27, 1981 at the Corvette Window Assembly Line at Hayes Albion Corporation (SIC-3711) in Spencerville, Ohio. The evaluation was requested by an authorized representative of the United Auto Workers Union Local 962 on behalf of approximately 53 workers. Bulk samples and area and personal air samples were collected for analysis. Nine employees were questioned about work related health effects. Concentrations of toluene, methanol, naphtha, ethanol, and MDI were below respective OSHA standards of 750, 260, 400, 1,900, and 0.05 milligrams per cubic meter. Workers reported health effects such as nose and throat irritation, headaches, and dermatitis of the hands. The author concludes that no hazardous exposures exist at this facility. Recommendations are included for changes in work practices, improved ventilation, medical monitoring, and worker education.
