Description:The case of the electrocution of a worker at a construction site on October 15, 1982, was investigated. The employee at the time of the accident was working for a welding company doing general construction and fabricated steel activities. The company was contracted to build two water tanks for the East Dunkard Township Water Association. All pieces for both tanks were fabricated at the company site in Charleston. The victim, a truck driver, had transported fabricated pieces from the site of the first tank to the site of the second tank. By the end of the morning the first 10 feet of the tank had been erected. The victim was assisting in the removal of a ladder from a truck. The crane operator lifted the ladder but was having difficulty clearing some of the equipment on the ground when the victim began to assist him. Once the crane operator began to swing and lower the ladder, the victim was apparently completely out of sight. The crane operator noticed that a portion of the overhead cable near the end of the boom was on fire, and he swung the boom in the opposite direction, away from the powerlines. The victim had been electrocuted when contact was made between the boom and the powerline.
