Description:A solar panel installer died when he fell off a three-story apartment building roof. The victim was checking the alignment of solar panel brackets and was walking backwards when he stepped off the edge of the roof. He fell 45 feet to the concrete sidewalk below. The pre-project plan stated that fall protection would be required on the job, however, the employees were not wearing any fall protection. The CA/FACE investigator determined that in order to prevent future incidents, employers who install solar panels on roofs should ensure that: 1.) Employees wear fall protection when working on sloped roofs with identified fall hazards. 2.) Worksite safety procedures and practices for fall protection are developed and implemented.
