Description:"This pamphlet discussed methods to control occupational exposures to perchloroethylene (127184). Exposure to this substance has been associated with central nervous system depression, liver and kidney damage, impaired memory, confusion, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, and eye, nose, and throat irritation, and perchloroethylene is also considered a human carcinogen. Control recommendations included substitution of less toxic cleaning agents and techniques, isolation of facilities using perchloroethylene and/or isolation of perchloroethylene using machines from other work areas, use of modern drycleaning machines equipped with a refrigerated condenser and a carbon adsorber to decrease exposures during loading and unloading, providing proper maintenance, use of personal protective equipment, providing proper local and general ventilation, and the use of proper work practices. Sources of additional information were also included." - NIOSHTIC-2
