Description:In 2012, the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists requested that CDC add leptospirosis to the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS), as per position statement 12-ID-02 titled Public Health Reporting and National Notification for Leptospirosis (http://c.ymcdn.com/sites/www.cste.org/resource/resmgr/PS/12-ID-02FINAL.pdf).
In order to add this condition to the NNDSS, we requested Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) approval. We have received OMB PRA approval. Leptospirosis appears on the 2014 list of nationally notifiable infectious diseases on the NNDSS web site (http://wwwn.cdc.gov/nndss/) along with its national surveillance case definition.
