Description:The Los Alamos Historical Document Retrieval and Assessment (LAHDRA) Project assembled pieces of Los Alamos National Laboratory's history to evaluate releases of materials that had the potential to cause off-site health hazards.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted this project to systematically review all available documents related to Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) operations and identify records that contribute information about releases of chemicals and radionuclides from the site between 1943 and 2010. Scientists from ChemRisk, contractor to CDC, performed the document retrieval and assessment. The project team had access to LANL records that was unprecedented for an independent group studying potential off-site health hazards. Products of the project included:
• Summary of historical operations
• Listing and ranking of materials released off site
• Bibliographic database of relevant documents and interviews
• Copies of those documents made available in a local reading room
