    El SARS-CoV-2, el virus que causa el COVID-19, está constantemente cambiando y acumulando mutaciones en su código genético con el paso del tiempo.     Para detectar y rastrear Variantes del SARS-CoV-2, los CDC usan vigilancia genómica. El sistema nacional de vigilancia genómica de los CDC recoge muestras de SARS-CoV-2 para su secuenciación a través del programa de Vigilancia de Cepas Nacional del SARS-CoV-2 (NS3), así como secuencias de SARS-CoV-2 generadas por laboratorios comerciales o académicos contratados por los CDC y laboratorios de salud pública estatales o locales. Virus genetic sequences are analyzed and classified as a particular lineage. The proportions of SARS-CoV-2 variants in a population are calculated nationally, by HHS region, and by jurisdiction. The sequences analyzed through CDC's national genomic sequencing and bioinformatics efforts fuel the comprehensive and population-based U.S. surveillance system established to identify and monitor the spread of variants.
