Description:Statistics are presented on the utilization of short-stay non-Federal hospitals based on data collected in the Hospital Discharge Survey from a national sample of hospital records of discharged patients. Number of discharges, total charges, average charge per episode of hospitalization, and average charge per day of hospitalization are presented by sex and age of patient, geographic region, bed size of hospital, and type of hospital service. Average charge per day of hospitalization is also presented by length of stay of patient.
