Description:Statistics are presented on the utilization of short-stay hospitals based on data abstracted by the Hospital Discharge Survey from hospital records for a national sample of discharged patients. Discharges, days of care, and average length of stay are distributed by each of the following variables: age, sex, marital status, color, and discharge status of the patient; and ownership, size, and geographic area of the hospital. Bed occupancy rates are distributed by selected characteristics of the hospital.
