The provisional number of live

births for 1990 was higher than the

riumber reported for 1989 and was the

largest number reported since 1961.

The birth rate per 1,000 population and the fertility rate per 1,000 women 15-44 years of age also increased in 1990 and were the highest they have been since the early 1970’s.
