  In 1986, there were 298,719 abortions reported as occurring to residents within the 13 States reporting this information to the National Center for Health Statistics, eomparecl with 305,938 in 1985 and 306,792 in 1984. The abortion ratio of 347.2 abortions per 1,000 live births in 1986 decreased from the ratio of 355.7 for the previous year, and continued the decline observed from 1984 to 1985. From 1985 to 1986, ratios decreased for both white and black women, but the decreases were greatest among white married women in most age groups.
