Description:Between 1979 and 1980 the ratio of induced abortions to live births decreased for the States reporting this information to the National Center for Health Statistics. This decline represents a change from the pattern of increase reported for each of the years since 1977. The number of abortions mtinued to increase from 1979 to 1980 as it has in the ast for the reporting States. The peak age for induced abortions in 1980 was 18-19 years for white women and 2I for black women. The highest ratios were reported for the youngest and the oldest women, a pattern observed for both white and black women, although at almost every age the ratios for black women were higher than for white women. From 1979 to 1980, ratios decreased for both white and black women.
