Description:

In 1977 there were deaths recorded in the United States, 9,843 fewer than in 1976. On the basis of final mor tality data, the death rate reached a record low in 1977—8.8 deaths per 1,000 population com pared with 8.9 recorded in 1976. Provisional data indicate that the number of deaths in 1978 was about 1,924,000, yielding an estimated death rate of 8.8 deaths per 1,000 population.
