Monitoring the impact of COVID-19 during pregnancy can protect pregnant women and their babies.

An MMWR study found that pregnant women are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19. The study found that pregnant women are more likely to be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), receive invasive ventilation and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and are at increased risk of death compared to nonpregnant women. But much remains unknown.

CDC is working with state, local, and territorial health departments and external partners to learn more about COVID-19 during pregnancy. Health departments that are notified of COVID-19 cases in pregnant women may collect more information using an optional modulepdf icon in addition to the case report form. CDC will use this information to update clinical guidance for pregnant women and their infants.
