These 55 reports are published once each 10-year period by the National Center for Health Statistics.

The life tables in this report are current life tables for the United States based on age-specific mortality rates for the period 1989–91. The death rates were calculated using data from the 1990 Census of Population and deaths occurring in the United States to residents of the United States in the 3 years 1989–91. Presented are tables for the white population, the population other than white, and the black population, separately by sex and for both sexes combined, and also for the total population and for total males and total females. Standard errors of the probability of dying and of life expect- ancy are also provided.
