Description:The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) office in Kyiv, Ukraine was formally established in August 2010. CDC develops the capacity of government and non-government organizations in Ukraine to respond to the HIV epidemic. CDC provides technical assistance to partners for developing in-country capacity and to assist in reaching the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) 90-90-90 targets - by 2020, 90 percent of all people living with HIV (PLHIV) will know their HIV status, 90 percent of all people with diagnosed HIV will receive sustained antiretroviral therapy (ART), and 90 percent of all people receiving ART will have viral suppression.
CDC’s strategic focus includes:
• Advancing the availability, quality, and use of surveillance and program monitoring data for data-driven programming.
• Strengthening the capacity of the national public health center to lead the HIV epidemic response.
• Strengthening the HIV national reference laboratory and laboratory network, especially in quality management systems.
• Enhancing HIV testing by introducing a new testing strategy.
• Increasing antiretroviral treatment uptake, improving retention, and increasing the number of people who are virally suppressed.
• Implementing information systems for management of care for PLHIV.
