Description:In tsunami-affected areas, liquid waste from human autopsies is being generated, collected, and stored. Each autopsy generates between 1 and 10 liters of liquid waste consisting of body fluids and rinse water used to clean and disinfect work surfaces. Current reports indicate that liquid waste is collected and stored in underground storage tanks, but other containers and methods of storage are likely being used. Because of the lack of storage facilities and onsite wastewater treatment operations, the CDC Field Team was asked to provide guidance on the final disposal of this waste.
