      Current Intelligence Bulletins (CIB's) are reports produced by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), CDC, Atlanta, Georgia, to disseminate new scientific information about occupational hazards. A CIB may focus attention on a hazard previously unrecognized or may report new data indicating that a known hazard is either more or less dangerous than was previously thought.

      To date, NIOSH has issued 44 CIB's. The summaries provided here reflect the state of knowledge at the time the bulletin was prepared. Estimates of the number of workers potentially exposed to a given substance or agent were derived from projections based on the National Occupational Hazard Survey conducted by NIOSH between 1972 and 1974, which encompassed potential exposures of some 500,000 workers at nearly 5,000 facilities. An italicized statement immediately following a summary indicates any revisions in NIOSH policy made subsequent to the issuance of the particular CIB. This compendium of summaries does not include any new NIOSH policy; it is rather a compilation of summaries of the 44 CIB's along with any subsequent policy statements related to the same topics.
