In 1973, 26,693 isolations of salmonella were reported to CDC, an increase of 583 cases or 2.2% over the previous year. As in 1973, Salmonella typhimurium (including £. typhimurium var. Copenhagen), S. newport and S. enteritidis were respectively the first, second, and third most commonly isolated serotypes.
