In the first quarter of 1972, 5,078 isolations of salmonella were reported from humans, an average of 391 isolations per week (Tables I, II, and V-A). This number represents a decrease of 128 (24.7 percent) from the weekly average for the fourth quarter of 1971, and a decrease of 24 (5.8 percent) from the weekly average for the first quarter of 1971.
