Description:"A review of safety information for use in handling anhydrous ammonia (7429905) was provided. The physicochemical nature and potential health hazards of anhydrous ammonia were described. Safety procedures in case of contact with the chemical included flushing with water for at least 15 minutes and immediate medical attention following completion of the first aid period. A checklist of safety measures included the use of personal protective equipment; an ample water supply; inspection, replacement, or repair of equipment; and proper procedures for chemical or equipment handling. All equipment used should be additive compatible and meet ammonia codes and standards. Safety precautions and requirements for vehicle towing were listed. The requirement for an accessible water supply was stressed." - NIOSHTIC-2 NIOSHTIC No 00226092
