  In this annual summary of notifiable diseases for 1951, the list of diseases recently recommended for reporting on a Nationwide basis is used. Final figures for the number of reported cases were obtained from all States, Territories, and the District of Columbia, and are shown in the following tables. ; The data for certain diseases such as dengue, infectious hepatitis, leptospirosis, Q fever, trichiniasis, tetanus, and trachoma, are incomplete since a number of States had not included one or more of them in their lists of reportable diseases in 1951. Other diseases, even though reportable for a number of years in all States, undoubtedly vary in completeness of reporting from State to State.
