Description:In this annual summary of notifiable diseases for 1951, the list of diseases recently recommended for reporting on a Nationwide basis is used. Final figures for the number of reported cases were obtained from all States, Territories, and the District of Columbia, and are shown in the following tables.
The data for certain diseases such as dengue, infectious hepatitis, leptospirosis, Q fever, trichiniasis, tetanus, and trachoma, are incomplete since a number of States had not included one or more of them in their lists of reportable diseases in 1951. Other diseases, even though reportable for a number of years in all States, undoubtedly vary in completeness of reporting from State to State.
