    "In the winter of.1967-68, a major epidemic of A2 influenza occurred in the United States. Forty-six states reported outbreaks of influenza-like illness. The extent of the outbreaks of influenza was much greater in the eastern part of the country. Excess mortality was seen throughout the month of January 1968 for the country as a whole and for eight of the nine geographic divisions. Excess mortality appeared 4-5 weeks after the onset of outbreaks" - p. [1]
