  Health hazards to workers in painting operations were surveyed at John Deere Harvester Works (SIC-3523) in Moline, Illinois, on October 11, 1978. The company was under consideration for inclusion in a NIOSH investigation of health hazards in the painting trades. About 250 employees were exposed to the spray paint operations. The company had a formal industrial hygiene and safety program, a safety director, and a manager of industrial hygiene. The company employed three full-time and one part-time physician, and four nurses. Personnel records included demographic information, job assignments, and personal information. Medical records were kept for each absence. A respirator training program and a blood lead monitoring program were maintained. While ventilation was satisfactory in most areas, there were some areas where tempered air was not provided. The authors conclude that the facility seems suitable for inclusion in the NIOSH survey. They recommend checking the ventilation in the winter when the building is closed. [Description provided by NIOSH]
