  This video, produced by NIOSH with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Office of Mines and Minerals, and Illinois Eastern Community Colleges presents an innovative concept in hazard recognition training - degraded image. Based on research conducted by NIOSH and the military on degraded target detection, this method has proven to increase miner ability to recognize hazards in their dangerous work environment. The total program includes an instructor's manual, ten slides, and the video. The training is designed to be interactive and provides miners with an opportunity to share their knowledge. Examples from surface locations and underground coal are used. The concept is applicable to all commodities and locations and is adaptable for trainers wanting to create their own degraded image hazard recognition program. [Description provided by NIOSH]
