  Two interactive maps of construction fatalities are featured below. The first map shows all types of construction fatalities and the second map shows just those due to falls. Zoom in or out using your mouse wheel or by clicking the plus or minus symbols. Pan around the map by clicking and dragging your mouse. Click on a pin to access specific information about a fatality and to link to online media articles (if available). CPWR recorded 578 construction fatalities that occurred in calendar year 2011, including 180 fatal falls. This data was compiled from ongoing OSHA investigations and from online media sources. The maps below reflect fatalities for which there was sufficient geographic information for mapping purposes; roughly one percent of fatalities recorded could not be displayed. It is important to note that the cases compiled by CPWR may not include all construction fatalities, but the data and the maps do illustrate the need for a greater focus on safety and health in the construction industry. Prior to the onset of the construction downturn in 2008, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported roughly 1,200 construction fatalities annually. The most recent available data from BLS show a preliminary count of 780 construction fatalities for calendar year 2010. The purpose of this map is to raise awareness of the number of lives lost each year on construction sites. Please help us to keep this map up-to-date. If you are aware of a construction worksite fatality that has occurred since January 2012, please email fatalitymap@cpwr.com with the date, location, cause of the fatality, and your contact information so that we can follow-up with you if needed.
