Description:The Occupational Safety and Health (BS) and Industrial Hygiene (MS) programs at Montana Tech of The University of Montana benefited from NIOSH Training Grant support over the period 7/1/93 through 6/30/98. Ninety-four students including sixty-one undergraduates and thirty-three graduate students received partial or full fee waivers under the grant. Additionally, approximately six hundred students indirectly benefited from this grant support through laboratories, field trips, seminars, professional conferences, etc. Faculty professional development continued throughout the grant period. One faculty member, Dr. Terry Spear, completed his doctorate at the University of Minnesota during this grant. A second has completed his course work and should receive his doctorate May, 2000. Julie Norman completed renewal of her CIH through December 31,2003. Acquisition of laboratory equipment and library resources continued over the grant period. Laboratories are state of the art and students receive an applied "hands-on" education. Summer internship and permanent employment remain at or near 100% placement. The Montana Tech program continues to meet a regional need and primarily places graduates in the Pacific Northwest or Western third of the country. [Description provided by NIOSH]
