Description:The programs of the Universities Occupational Safety and Health Educational Resource Center (UOSHERC) for the period 1987 to 1992 were described. The program was designed to provide training to professionals in the field of occupational safety and health. Six programs were developed under the guidance of this center and operated at five universities in New York and New Jersey. The six programs included work at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, New York University School of Medicine, Hunter College School of Health Sciences of City University in New York, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine. Occupational medicine physicians, occupational safety engineers, and industrial hygienists were trained as part of the program. Professional education was provided for practicing occupational health and safety personnel, and for hazardous waste workers. The report highlighted the need for occupational health and safety training in this region of the country, the administrative structure of UOSHERC, new program development, educational exchanges for NIOSH trainees, the continuing education program, joint research activities, individual program goals, and field placement.
